When it comes to beauty products, even the slightest of carelessness can prove to be disastrous for them which not only reduces their shelf life but also increases the chances of them becoming unsuitable to be applied on the skin. And nobody would apply anything on their skin that has gotten damaged which is not only the wastage of money but the product as well. Unlike food items, the beauty products usually don’t come with instructions to store them which is one of the most important things to know to ensure that the product remains safe throughout its use.
Putting your beauty products at risk of getting damaged or aging faster is the last thing you should be doing which is why we have rounded up a list of a few tips that will help in keeping your beauty products safe and clean.
Don’t keep the products in bathroom vanity
As convenient and easy as this may sound, this is probably the last thing you should be doing. Keeping your beauty products in the bathroom’s vanity not only puts them at great risk but also increases the chances of them becoming damaged or unfit to use. The bathroom usually has a very moist environment and that moisture can be your beauty products enemy as the steam produced from your shower can cause some products to produce mould, which then becomes unsuitable to be used by anyone. Similarly, you shouldn’t keep your makeup tools like brushes and sponge in the bathroom as they can easily harbor some bacteria on their surface.
Keep them away from direct sunlight
Exposing your beauty products to direct sunlight can be as damaging as exposing your skin. You should never keep any of your makeup products in direct sunlight as it messes with their shelf life and cause them to age more quickly than anticipated. And in some cases, it also results in the breakage of active ingredients present in the beauty products and make them ineffective. Therefore, you should always keep them in a dark and cool place away from direct sunlight.
Make some space in your fridge for beauty products
Keeping your beauty products in cool temperatures can help in keeping them in a good state for as long as possible. While heat exposure can mess with their shelf life, the cool temperature can work oppositely for them by extending their shelf life. But we are not suggesting you keep using those products beyond their expiry date, the only purpose of stating this tip is that keeping a few beauty products in your fridge can help them to stay in a fit and usable state for the longest time until the product has expired. Just dedicate a small section of your fridge to a few of your beauty products containing vitamin c and retinol, sheet masks, under-eye creams, etc.
Keep replacing your applicator every 3 to 4 months
You shouldn’t take your beauty applicators for granted. While they are one of the most important parts of your vanity but you should know when you should be getting rid of them. Everything comes with an expiry date and just because these applicators aren’t something that can actually get expired doesn’t mean that you won’t have to replace them with new ones for years to come. A minimum of 3 or a maximum of 4 months is the ideal time to replace them with the new ones, especially when it comes to your beauty sponge.
Close the lid of the products very tightly
How many of you actually pay attention while closing the lid of the beauty products carefully? Chances are some of you may not even close the lid properly and leave the product as it is. And if you think that this is a smart thing to do then we would like to clear that confusion of yours as you’re only allowing the germs and bacteria to penetrate inside the product which makes it unfit for your skin. Therefore, always close the lids of beauty products very carefully and tightly to keep it clean and safe.
